Leviatan Group makes history: the first triple BSI Kitemark for BIM certified organization in Eastern Europe
Leviatan Group, one of the most technologically advanced construction companies in Romania, has achieved a historic milestone for the construction industry in Romania and across Eastern Europe after obtaining triple BSI Kitemark™ certification for Building Information Modeling (BIM).
It’s the first time an organization in this part of the continent has received this elite distinction from the British Standards Institution (BSI), according to publicly available information, placing the Romanian group in the same category as global giants such as Skanska, Balfour Beatty, and BAM – companies with billion-euro turnovers.
What does BSI Kitemark™ certification for BIM represent?
The British Standards Institution, founded in 1901, is the world’s first standards organization and operates in over 195 countries. For 125 years, the BSI Kitemark™ has been recognized as a symbol of quality, safety, and trust for a wide range of products and services.
BSI Kitemark™ certification for BIM validates the rigorous implementation of ISO 19650 standards across all phases of construction projects. It confirms that an organization correctly and consistently applies the BIM standard, optimizes workflows, and manages information in a secure, traceable, and predictable manner.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the digital transformation of the design and construction process, creating a 3D model that contains all the information about a building. BIM enables real-time collaboration between architects, engineers, and builders, significantly reducing errors and execution time.
Why is this certification important?
For Leviatan Group customers, BSI Kitemark™ certification translates into tangible benefits: up to 30% reduction in execution time, elimination of costly on-site errors, and significantly increased control over costs and deadlines. In other words, BSI Kitemark certification is to the construction industry what the Michelin star is to restaurants: an independent, globally recognized validation that processes are of the highest standard.
Leviatan Group has obtained this certification in a particularly relevant context: Romania is aligning its public construction sector with European digitalization requirements, including the mandatory adoption of BIM methodology for public projects by 2028. Thus, Leviatan Group demonstrates that it is ready for this transition two years ahead of the official deadline.
Leviatan Group, in the same league as global construction giants
Obtaining BSI Kitemark™ certification places Leviatan Group alongside the world’s largest construction companies. Other organizations that have obtained this certification include Skanska in Sweden (approximately €15 billion globally), Balfour Beatty in the UK (approximately £10 billion), and BAM in the Netherlands (approximately €6.5 billion).
With a consolidated turnover of 540 million lei in 2024, an increase of approximately 10% compared to 2023, Leviatan Group demonstrates that excellence is not solely determined by an organization’s size, but by vision, discipline, and strategic investments in technology and people.
Triple certification: Design, Construction and a Security-Minded Approach
Leviatan Design and Ubitech Construcții, companies part of the Leviatan Group, have obtained BSI Kitemark™ certification for Design, Construction and Commissioning in accordance with ISO 19650-1:2018 and ISO 19650-2:2018, and for the implementation of a Security-Minded Approach in accordance with ISO 19650-5:2020, following an assessment of Project Delivery and Collaborative Working Maturity with project stakeholders. This confirms the group’s ability to carry out construction projects to the highest international standards.
“Over 14 years in the construction industry, we have gradually built a group of companies that combine professionalism, responsibility, and innovation, capable of delivering the most complex projects to global standards. This certification confirms not only the technical level we have achieved, but also our organizational maturity, and our ability to manage information and deliver complex projects predictably and securely. BSI certification is not a trophy, but a passport that opens access to the most demanding international projects,” said Cătălin Podaru, founder and CEO of Leviatan Group.
The complete integration of design and construction into a single, coherent digital ecosystem enables Leviatan specialists to deliver projects with greater predictability, transparency, and control, providing customers with the certainty of a partner capable of managing complexity throughout the project lifecycle.
“BSI Kitemark certification confirms the digital maturity that Leviatan Group has consistently built over recent years, both in design and execution. This is not only a validation of compliance with ISO 19650 standards, but also recognition of how we manage information throughout the entire project lifecycle – from design to construction, delivery, and commissioning. For our customers, certification means transparent processes, secure information, and the certainty that they are working with an internationally validated partner capable of delivering complex projects to the highest standards,” explained Maria Văsi, Director of Operations and Transformation.
Obtaining BSI Kitemark™ certification is a laborious process involving several stages. In the case of Leviatan Group, the process took approximately six months and involved a detailed audit of workflows, internal procedures, ongoing projects, and information management.
BSI certification requires continuous monitoring, recurring audits, and ongoing validation of how companies apply standards in practice. This rigor distinguishes the BSI Kitemark™ from other types of certifications and explains why only a small number of companies worldwide hold it.
„As the first companies based in Romania to achieve BSI Kitemark Certification for BIM Part 1, 2 and 5; BSI have been proud to support the Leviatan and Ubitech teams to take advantage of the benefits that proper utilization of BIM brings. Improved efficiency, enhanced collaboration, and increased capacity to identify and mitigate security risks are key elements of a well-implemented BIM system, covering parts 1,2 and 5. I’d like to thank Leviatan and Ubitech for their team’s active engagement with the audits conducted by BSI, where they showcased their commitment to continual improvement regarding their approach to building information modelling”, Gary Pattison, Certification Team Manager, BSI Group.

In addition to the triple certification for design, execution, and information security management, Leviatan Group supports its digital processes with the Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) platform, which is also BSI Kitemark™ certified for compliance with ISO 19650 standards. This certification confirms that ACC supports the workflows and functionalities required for structured, standardized information management, which is essential for delivering complex projects in architecture, engineering, and construction. Following the audit, the British Standards Institution assessed key components, including Autodesk Docs, Autodesk Build, and model coordination, to validate the platform’s ability to provide a consistent, organized, and traceable common data environment.
For Leviatan Group beneficiaries, this alignment between organization-level certified processes and platform-level validated digital tools provides an additional guarantee that information is consistently managed, controlled, and efficiently managed throughout the project lifecycle.
