ROMDEF – The Organisation of the Romanian Defence Industry was officially launched on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, during an event that brought together high-level representatives from public authorities and the private sector. Cătălin Podaru, Founder and CEO of Leviatan Group, assumed the role of president of the new organisation dedicated to Romania’s national defense industry and its dual-use ecosystem.

The new structure aims to represent and connect private companies with relevant activities for national and regional security, covering areas such as the defense industry, critical infrastructure, technology, cybersecurity, energy, logistics, and other sectors with dual-use applications.

Leviatan Group became involved in the founding of ROMDEF based on a conviction built over years of experience in the defense and critical infrastructure ecosystems. The fragmentation of Romania’s private industry represents a major obstacle to strategic relevance. For this reason, Cătălin Podaru has consistently advocated for a model in which even competitors can sit at the same table to articulate the industry’s common interests – not in relation to competition, but to governmental and institutional partners.
